The Guyana Amazon Warriors have signed Afghanistan’s opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz for the CPL 2024 season. Imran Tahir, who led the team to their first title last season, has also been retained.

Gurbaz, who was part of the franchise in 2022, returns after playing six matches and scoring 157 runs, including two half-centuries.

Other retained overseas players include Pakistan’s Saim Ayub and Azam Khan, and South African allrounder Dwaine Pretorius. The Warriors have also retained prominent West Indies players such as Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Romario Shepherd, and Keemo Paul.

So far, the Warriors have signed 14 players, leaving them with three more spots to fill during the draft in July.

The defending champions, who defeated Trinbago Knight Riders in a low-scoring final last season, will begin their 2024 campaign against the newly-formed Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on August 30 in North Sound.

The 2024 CPL will run from August 29 to October 6, with matches in Antigua for the first time in a decade. Other host locations include Barbados, Guyana, St Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad & Tobago, with the final scheduled at the National Stadium in Providence, Guyana.
