Done Deal: Bashir Humphreys Has Signed Four Year Contract With……….read more.
Leeds United are reportedly one of two Championship clubs showing serious interest in signing Chelsea’s young talent Bashir Humphreys. With Chelsea’s continued spending pushing Humphreys further down the defensive pecking order, a move away from Stamford Bridge appears increasingly likely. The versatile defender, who spent last season on loan at Swansea City, where he gained valuable first-team experience, is eager to continue playing regularly elsewhere.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Humphreys is expected to leave Chelsea “in the coming days,” with both Leeds and Burnley expressing interest in the 21-year-old. While Chelsea would prefer to sell Humphreys, a loan move remains a possibility, with several Bundesliga clubs also reportedly in the mix.
Humphreys, primarily a center-back, has also proven his ability to play at right-back, showcasing his versatility during his loan stint at Swansea. The England youth international made 26 appearances for the Championship side and spent the previous season on loan at German second-tier club SC Paderborn.
While Leeds have shown interest in Humphreys, their primary focus appears to be on bolstering their wide and central midfield positions. Manager Daniel Farke has indicated a need for defensive cover, but their known interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Hugo Bueno suggests that left-back cover is a higher priority than adding to the center or right side of the defense.
Leeds have a solid lineup of center-backs, including Austrian international Max Wober, who was a regular in the Bundesliga last season and watched Leeds’ recent 3-3 draw against Portsmouth from the bench. Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk are currently Farke’s preferred pairing, and the manager has recently praised academy prospect James Debayo, hinting that he is willing to rely on the 19-year-old if necessary.
Although Wober has expressed a desire to stay at Leeds for the upcoming season, his future remains uncertain, as he previously made similar statements before joining Borussia Monchengladbach on loan. He has yet to comment publicly on his future, unlike fellow loan returnee Brenden Aaronson, who addressed his situation during the pre-season camp in Germany.
