Derby County has announced their squad numbers for the upcoming EFL Championship season, as reported by the club’s official website. Among the new signings, David Ozoh has been assigned the number 4 jersey for the 2024-2025 season.

Ozoh, a versatile midfielder eligible to play for Spain, Nigeria, and England, joined Derby County fifteen days ago in search of more consistent playing time. The number 4 shirt was previously worn by former Super Eagles player Blessing Kaku, who also competed for Nigeria’s Dream Team II at the 2000 Olympics, featuring in matches against Australia, Italy, and Chile.

Since the start of the 2000s, Derby County’s number 4 shirt has been worn by several players, including Conor Hourihane, Harrison Solomon, Graeme Shinnie, Craig Bryson, Paul Green, Jay McEveley, Adam Bolder, Alan Wright, Andrew Davies, Chris Makin, Jason Talbot, and Dave Walton.

Kaku appeared in four Championship matches for Derby County during the 2004-2005 season. Ozoh, a central midfielder by position, donned the number 4 jersey during pre-season. The highly regarded teenager scored his first goal for Derby County, albeit in an unofficial match, as the Rams secured an impressive 2-1 victory over Spanish La Liga side Real Valladolid at Pride Park Stadium on August 3.

Ozoh, who holds the distinction of being the youngest player to represent Crystal Palace in the Premier League, is poised to make his Championship debut on the season’s opening day when Derby County faces Blackburn Rovers. During his time with Crystal Palace, he wore number 77 when he first debuted in the Premier League and was assigned number 52 last season.
