West Bromwich Albion will host Leeds United at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon in their first home game of the season, as they aim to demonstrate their promotion potential in the Championship.

Both teams experienced disappointment in the EFL Cup earlier this week, with West Brom being knocked out by League Two side Fleetwood Town and Leeds suffering a surprise home defeat to Middlesbrough.

In a match preview:

West Bromwich Albion, led by Carlos Corberan, bounced back from a tough pre-season with a decisive 3-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road last weekend. However, their struggles in cup competitions continued as they fielded a mostly Under-21 squad in a 2-1 loss to Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup, leaving them to focus solely on the Championship for the rest of the year. After finishing fifth last season and falling short in the playoffs, West Brom will be looking to leverage their strong home record at The Hawthorns, where they won 15 of 23 games last season.

Albion managed to avoid defeat against Leeds United last season, even securing a win at home on December 29 with a first-half goal from Grady Diangana.

Leeds United, under the guidance of Daniel Farke, have seen plenty of goals at Elland Road in their first two matches of the season but are still searching for their first win. A late equalizer from Brenden Aaronson salvaged a point against Portsmouth last weekend, but Leeds were then knocked out of the EFL Cup by Middlesbrough, despite dominating possession. Now, they head to The Hawthorns looking to build on their solid away form from last season, where they collected 37 points on the road. Although their last visit to West Brom ended in defeat, Leeds will recall their dominant 5-0 victory in December 2020 under Sam Allardyce as a positive memory.
