Super Eagles full-back Ola Aina appeared to sustain an injury during the Premier League match between Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the City Ground on Saturday.

Aina’s injury is concerning for the national team, as the Nigeria Football Federation is set to announce the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda by the end of August.

In the match, Chris Wood scored for Nottingham Forest in the 23rd minute, and Antoine Semenyo equalized for Bournemouth just before the final whistle. Aina, who was performing well, was injured just nine minutes into the second half.

Before his injury, Aina had made two successful tackles, two clearances, one interception, and had an 83% pass completion rate. He twisted his ankle early in the second half and was substituted, with Harry Toffo coming on in his place.

Brazilian defender Danilo also had to leave the field early due to injury, with Ryan Yates replacing him in the 14th minute. Meanwhile, Taiwo Awoniyi, another Super Eagles player, replaced Chris Wood in the 72nd minute.

The extent of Aina’s injury is still unknown, but it represents a significant setback for Nottingham Forest as they aim to avoid a repeat of last season’s relegation struggles and start the 2024/2025 campaign positively.
