Done Deal: Tottenham Has Signed Wilson Odobert After………..read more.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham team appears well-prepared in the winger department for the 2024/25 Premier League season. Already possessing several wide players, Spurs further strengthened their squad on Friday with the unexpected signing of Wilson Odobert from Championship side Burnley.

The transfer caught many by surprise, with little prior speculation linking the 19-year-old to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Odobert has signed a five-year contract and will wear the No.28 shirt, previously held by Tanguy Ndombele. The deal sees him move from Turf Moor for an initial £25 million, with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons.

The French winger is familiar with the Premier League, having made 29 appearances for Burnley last season, contributing three goals and three assists. While these stats might not be particularly standout, it’s important to consider that Odobert was part of a struggling Burnley side, and his experience in the Premier League and fighting against relegation will likely serve him well.

Odobert showcased his speed and skill earlier in the week by scoring in Burnley’s 4-1 victory over Luton Town in their season opener. This match turned out to be his last for the Lancashire club before his unexpected move to Tottenham was completed just four days later.

Odobert’s arrival in North London could spell trouble for Manor Solomon. After being limited to just six appearances last season due to a knee injury and seeing limited action in pre-season friendlies, Solomon’s chances seem further diminished. Having been an unused substitute in Tottenham’s last three friendlies and now behind both Mikey Moore and Odobert in the squad, a move away before the transfer window closes might be the best option for Solomon to secure regular playing time. Odobert’s signing could also have future implications for Timo Werner.
