Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been signed by the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. The team will once again be captained by wrist spinner Imran Tahir, who led them to their first-ever title last season.

Gurbaz, who was part of the Warriors in 2022, will be making a return after a two-year gap. In the 2022 season, he scored 157 runs from six innings, including two half-centuries, with an average of 26.16 and a strike rate of 140.17.

In the Indian Premier League 2024, the 22-year-old Gurbaz played three matches for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), replacing Philip Salt as an opener. He scored 62 runs in those matches, including a knock of 39 (32) in the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Gurbaz is currently in excellent form in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, where he is the leading run-scorer with 156 runs from two innings, averaging 78 with a strike rate of 154.45.

In addition to Gurbaz, the Guyana Amazon Warriors have retained Pakistan batters Saim Ayub and Azam Khan, as well as South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius as their overseas players. West Indies stars Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Romario Shepherd, and Keemo Paul have also been retained by the franchise.

The CPL 2024 is set to begin on August 29, with the Warriors kicking off their campaign against the Falcons on August 30. The final of the tournament will take place on October 6 at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
