Third-division team FC Saarbrücken’s fairytale journey in the German Cup came to an end after a 2-0 defeat by FC Kaiserslautern in the semi-finals.
The underdogs had previously pulled off stunning victories against Bayern Munich, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Eintracht Frankfurt to reach the DFB-Pokal semi-finals.
However, their dreams of making it to the final were shattered by second-half goals from Marlon Ritter and Almamy Touré.
Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen will take on Düsseldorf in the second semi-final on Wednesday.
This marks the first time since 2003 that Kaiserslautern has made it to the final, where they were defeated by Bayern Munich.
