Deal Done: Queens park Rangers has reach agreement and max johnston is set to sign ………….

Reporter Anthony Joseph has revealed that Queens Park Rangers have made a loan approach to bring the Scotland youth international to Loftus Road for the rest of the 2024/25 season.

Johnston has attracted considerable interest during the summer transfer window, with several Championship clubs showing interest in him.

In early July, Joseph reported that Luton Town and Oxford United were also interested in Johnston, along with Danish side AGF and League One club Birmingham City.

However, since then, Birmingham City has signed Alfons Sampsted and Taylor Gardner-Hickman, both of whom can play at right-back, making a move for Johnston less likely before the window closes.

Luton has also strengthened their right-back options by bringing in Reuell Walters, who could be a valuable addition on the right side at Kenilworth Road.

Oxford, too, has bolstered their right-back department by signing Peter Kioso and Hidde ter Avest, who will compete with Sean Long for a starting position. Even if Long is used more as a central defender this season, Oxford likely has enough depth in this area, which could give QPR a strong chance of securing a deal for Johnston.

QPR likely needs another option at right-back, even though Reggie Cannon is a solid choice. With Aaron Drewe and Osman Kakay both leaving the club at the end of last season, there is a clear need for more depth in this position before the summer transfer window closes.

Although QPR may have lost promising starlet Sinclair Armstrong, the club’s board has supported manager Marti Cifuentes in the transfer market. The club has brought in players like Liam Morrison, Zan Celar, Jonathan Varane, and Nicolas Madsen for transfer fees, along with others on free transfers and loan deals.

It appears they are eager to further strengthen the squad, with a loan approach for 20-year-old Johnston. The Scotland youth international has significant senior experience from his time with his current team and Motherwell.

Johnston has demonstrated that he can be a real asset going forward in his career. If he secures regular playing time, both Johnston and Kenneth Paal could make QPR a real threat on the flanks, making Johnston a smart signing. Although he hasn’t played in England before, he has experience in Austria’s top tier and has won silverware during his career.

QPR has already invested heavily in the transfer market and could benefit from the loan market to manage costs, making Johnston an ideal acquisition.
