Last season, FCSB ended CFR Cluj’s dominance in the Romanian league, clinching the championship for the first time since the 2014/15 season. However, in the third round, the Romanian champions were knocked out by Sparta Prague – a 1-1 draw away and a 2-3 loss at home.

In recent years, LASK has become accustomed to regularly competing in the main stages of European competitions. Not long ago, this team even faced Manchester United in the Europa League Round of 16. Last season, LASK played in the group stage but finished last. In the 2023/24 Austrian Bundesliga, the club from Linz secured third place.
Like FCSB, LASK’s start to the new season has been underwhelming. In the first four matches of the Austrian Bundesliga, the black-and-whites have only managed to secure three points, with their sole victory being a 2-1 win over modest Hartberg. In the previous round, LASK suffered a 1-2 defeat to Austria Vienna.
