Preview: Team News and Predicted Lineups**

In this preview of Saturday’s Bundesliga clash between RB Leipzig and VfL Bochum, we provide the latest team updates and expected lineups.

**RB Leipzig**
RB Leipzig enters the first matchday of the Bundesliga season as one of the favorites, hosting VfL Bochum at the Red Bull Arena. After finishing fourth last season, Marco Rose’s squad began their campaign with a 4-1 victory over RW Essen in the DFB-Pokal and now face a Bochum team that narrowly avoided relegation last season.

Leipzig and Bochum played to a 0-0 draw in their home fixture last season, but Leipzig won the away game 4-1.

**Team News**
Notably, star player Dani Olmo has left for FC Barcelona, with Antonio Nusa coming in as his replacement. Leipzig has also extended Xavi Simons’ loan for another season and added goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt to compete with Peter Gulacsi. Young midfielder Assan Ouedraogo is out with a knee injury. Baumgartner (knee), Bitshiabu (thigh), Elmas (thigh), and Schlager (knee) are all doubtful for the game against Bochum.

**VfL Bochum**
After interim coach Heiko Butscher kept Bochum in the Bundesliga through a penalty shootout victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf, the club has appointed Peter Zeidler as their new head coach. Zeidler’s side impressed in a 6-0 friendly win over Le Havre but were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Regensburg. A stronger performance will be needed if they are to get anything from their opening game of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season.

**Team News**
Bochum has lost several key players from last season, most notably creative midfielder Kevin Stöger, who joined Gladbach. Patrick Osterhage and Takuma Asano have also left, leaving significant gaps in the squad. The club has opted not to spend on transfers, instead relying on free transfers and loan deals, bringing in players like Patrick Drewes, Dani de Wit, Samuel Bamba, Jakov Medic, and Myron Boadu. De Wit is suspended due to a red card received in the Dutch Eredivisie last season. Bernardo (knee), Kwarteng (knee), Ordets (shoulder), and Riemann (not included) are also out, with Tolba listed as a doubt.
