Shocking News: the American Tennis Star Jannik Sinner Makes Surprising Departure To…”

World number one Jannik Sinner advanced to the third round of the US Open by defeating Alex Michelsen in straight sets.

The Italian secured a 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 victory over the American, marking his 50th win of the year.

Sinner, the reigning Australian Open champion, is competing in his first tournament since being cleared of any wrongdoing after twice testing positive for a banned substance earlier this year.

The 23-year-old will face Australian Chris O’Connell in the third round in New York.

Sinner had a shaky start against American Mackenzie McDonald in the first round on Tuesday, dropping the first set before recovering to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2 at Flushing Meadows.

However, against Michelsen on Thursday, Sinner faced no such difficulties. After a closely contested first set with several breaks, Sinner took control, finishing the match in one hour and 39 minutes.

“I’m very happy,” said Sinner, who had previously defeated world number 49 Michelsen in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters earlier this month.

“He’s a tough opponent. We played each other in Cincinnati recently, so we both had an idea of what to expect.”

In other matches, seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz was eliminated by Australian Jordan Thompson, losing 7-6 (7-2), 6-1, 7-5.

This marks the sixth consecutive year that Poland’s Hurkacz has been ousted in the second round of the US Open.

Another seeded player was also sent packing as American 16th seed Seb Korda fell to Czech Tomas Machac, who won 6-4, 6-2, 6-4.

Machac will face either Belgium’s David Goffin or France’s Adrian Mannarino, who are set to play later on Thursday, in the third round.

Australian 10th seed Alex de Minaur had better fortune, defeating Finland’s Otto Virtanen 7-5, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) to earn a third-round matchup against Britain’s Dan Evans or Argentina’s Mariano Navone.
