Lahinch Golf Club in Co Clare is planning to invest €6.1 million in redeveloping its clubhouse, funded by the significant increase in green fee revenues since the Covid-19 pandemic. The project is scheduled to begin next month, as confirmed by the club’s chairperson, John Gleeson, in a recent update to members following the awarding of the main construction contract.

Mr. Gleeson informed members that the contract price exceeded expectations, bringing the total cost of the clubhouse redevelopment to €6.1 million, including associated expenses.

Despite the higher-than-expected costs, the club’s council is confident that they can finance the entire project with their current financial resources and the €3 million loan approved at the AGM.

In an update last December, Mr. Gleeson mentioned that the expected expenditure would exceed €4 million.

Members were informed that the project was necessary because the current clubhouse, constructed in 1965, was “no longer suitable for use,” with many of its components nearing the end of their lifespan.
