In January 2024, Corey Taylor made the decision to cancel his solo tour, a choice driven by his need to adopt a healthier approach to touring, which will also influence Slipknot’s future plans.

In a recent interview with Alternative Press, Taylor opened up about reaching “a real dark point” earlier this year, recognizing the need for significant changes. When he canceled the tour, he issued a statement explaining, “Over the past several months, my mental and physical health have deteriorated, reaching an unhealthy place for both my family and me.”

“I understand this decision might surprise some and be unpopular with others, but after a serious evaluation of my situation and where I was headed, I knew I needed to step back and be with my family.”

In his conversation with AP, Taylor briefly reflected on his earlier struggles and the steps he’s taking to improve.

“I realized that my relentless pursuit of work and ego was destroying me, almost to the point of no return,” Taylor admits. “So, I’ve made a commitment to only work to a certain extent. I won’t be away from home for more than two-and-a-half weeks at a time. I’m refocusing on the things that truly matter to me. That’s the greatest gift I can give to myself and my family.”

This shift mirrors the approach Metallica adopted in 2017. At the time, James Hetfield shared on The Nerdist podcast, “My body has signaled that 50 shows a year is our limit, so we need to make the most of those. And we all agree on that.”

“Body, mind, and spirit all need to recharge at home, and taking days off is essential for vocal health,” Hetfield added.

Drummer Lars Ulrich also shared on the Club Random podcast in 2023 that the spaced-out schedule has been beneficial for his custody arrangements, giving him more time to be present for his children as they grow up.

Since around 2017, the band has stuck to a routine of playing for two weeks, followed by time off.
