Deal complete: Leeds United have made another Amazing signing of Martin Baturina from…..
Leeds United have reportedly made a £25.5 million offer for Dinamo Zagreb’s midfielder Martin Baturina, which has been accepted by the Croatian club, as reported by Sportske Novosti.
However, the 21-year-old declined the move, feeling that a transfer to Elland Road isn’t the right step for him at this time.
Baturina has also caught the attention of Serie A’s Fiorentina, who are willing to make him the club’s second-highest earner, behind only Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea.
Yet, he turned down their offer as well, preferring to continue his development with his boyhood club.
Leeds faced a similar rejection a few years ago when Josko Gvardiol chose to stay with Dinamo Zagreb instead of moving to the Whites, despite a tempting offer.
Whether Leeds actually submitted a £25 million bid for a player who hasn’t yet proven himself in a top league is unclear, and the Croatian report could be an attempt to pressure Fiorentina into improving their offer.
Leeds are keen to strengthen their attacking midfield as they push for Premier League promotion, and while Baturina would be a good fit, the reported fee seems steep.
So far, manager Daniel Farke has brought in Ao Tanaka, Alex Cairns, Joe Rothwell, Manor Solomon, Largie Ramazani, Joe Rodon, and Jayden Bogle, but it’s uncertain if any more signings will be made before the summer transfer window closes.
Leeds are also likely to miss out on SC Freiburg forward Rolland Sallai, and their transfer activity may be done for the year.
The club will reassess their needs in January before the second half of the Championship season, but fans will be waiting until the 11 pm deadline to see if any new arrivals are announced.
