Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon was all in on moving Tuesday’s game against the Indiana Fever to the larger T-Mobile Arena when she heard it could be profitable. The decision paid off, resulting in a sellout crowd of 20,366, marking the fifth-largest in WNBA history and the biggest regular-season turnout since 1999. The Aces, powered by Kelsey Plum’s season-high 34 points, triumphed over the Fever 88-69.
The Fever, bolstered by the popularity of No. 1 draft pick Caitlin Clark, have become accustomed to drawing large crowds both at home and on the road. A recent game against the Phoenix Mercury attracted 17,071 fans, the largest at Footprint Center since 1997. This season has seen two WNBA games with over 20,000 attendees, both involving the Fever.
The Aces, who usually play at the 12,000-seat Michelob Ultra Arena, will return to T-Mobile Arena on September 3 for a game against the Chicago Sky. Hammon praised the energy of the crowd, noting it was one of the best experiences from an atmosphere standpoint. Aces star A’ja Wilson, who is a leading MVP candidate, contributed 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 blocks to the win.
The Aces have been a top draw since relocating to Las Vegas in 2018, consistently selling out their home games. Tuesday’s game, however, felt particularly special, with Hammon highlighting the electric atmosphere and the growing attention on the team.
Plum’s performance also marked a milestone as she became the fourth player in franchise history to reach 3,000 points. Alongside Wilson and fellow stars Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young, the Aces continue to set the standard in the WNBA.
