Boris Tomiak celebrates

Third-tier team FC Saarbrücken’s dream run in the German Cup ended with a 2-0 defeat to FC Kaiserslautern in the semi-final. The underdogs had previously stunned Bayern Munich, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Eintracht Frankfurt to reach this stage of the DFB-Pokal. However, their aspirations of advancing to the final were thwarted by second-half goals from Marlon Ritter and Almamy Touré. Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen will take on Düsseldorf in the other semi-final on Wednesday. This marks Kaiserslautern’s first appearance in the final since 2003, when they were defeated by Bayern Munich.
