The University of Michigan’s athletic director, Warde Manuel, is facing an investigation into his football program for several alleged significant NCAA rule violations. In a recent appearance on “The Michigan Insider,” Manuel stated that both he and the university will vigorously challenge the NCAA’s probe.
“We will stand up when necessary,” Manuel declared. “And where we’ve erred, we’ll own up to it and address it. Just because we can’t discuss it publicly doesn’t mean we’re not fighting for what’s right for the University of Michigan and its community. We absolutely are.”
The investigation centers on allegations of illegal sign stealing by former staff member Connor Stalions, which began midway through last season and led to the suspension of former head coach Jim Harbaugh for the last three regular-season games. Harbaugh left the team to join the Los Angeles Chargers after they won the national championship against Washington, well before the investigations were completed.
