Lazio winger Gustav Isaksen has shared why he chose to remain in Rome instead of pursuing opportunities with Celtic or Feyenoord.

Despite a late August bid from the Glasgow club, the 23-year-old decided to stay, even though he wasn’t starting regularly for Marco Baroni’s team. In an interview with TV Midtvest, Isaksen explained that he didn’t want to waste the experience he had gained at Lazio by starting over elsewhere. He felt it would be inefficient to spend a year adapting to Lazio only to restart the process with a new club. He informed his agent that he preferred to stay with a high level of certainty, believing he could become a key player for Lazio.

During his first year at Lazio, Isaksen was beginning to make an impact under Maurizio Sarri but lost momentum after Igor Tudor took over in March. However, he now feels more comfortable with Baroni as the manager. Isaksen admitted he struggled under the previous coach, as their vision didn’t align, which was frustrating despite his good performances. With Baroni in charge, he feels more optimistic about his future and prospects at the club.

Although Isaksen faces competition from Tijjani Noslin and Loum Tchaouna for a starting spot, he has started to make a positive impression on Baroni with his performances against Udinese and Milan.
