Breaking News: Dominik Szoboszlai  is back again………..read more

Just weeks after their Euro 2024 loss to Germany, Hungary found themselves on the receiving end of another heavy defeat on Saturday night, suffering a 5-0 thrashing in Dusseldorf.

Hungary conceded four goals in the second half of the match, where their German hosts also struck the crossbar twice, leading to a crushing opening-day loss in Group 3 for Marco Rossi’s side.

Before Euro 2024, Hungary had been in strong form, losing just once in 16 matches and coming close to securing a spot in the recent Nations League finals, narrowly missing out by one point in a tough group that included Germany and England.

However, the Magyars have now lost three of their last four games, conceding a total of 10 goals. If this poor form continues, they could face relegation from League A.

A top-two finish would guarantee a place in the Nations League’s new quarter-final stage, while finishing third would lead to a survival playoff. Coming in fourth would mean automatic relegation, so a home defeat on Tuesday is not an option.

In contrast, their upcoming rivals Bosnia-Herzegovina, likely challengers for third place, fought harder in their match against the Netherlands, though they ultimately fell short.

After an early Joshua Zirkzee goal, Bosnia leveled through Ermedin Demirovic, only to trail 3-1 by the hour mark. Though Edin Dzeko, their captain, pulled one back with his 66th international goal, Bosnia still fell 5-2 in Eindhoven, marking a tough debut in the top tier of the Nations League.

Despite topping League B last season, beating teams like Finland, Montenegro, and Romania, Bosnia was eliminated by Ukraine in the Euro 2024 playoffs, leading to the departure of coach Savo Milosevic. Since then, new boss Sergej Barbarez has overseen three consecutive losses, including setbacks to Italy and England in friendlies, and Saturday’s defeat to the Netherlands. Bosnia has now lost seven straight games since last October.
