Carlos Alcaraz Set to Lead Spain in Davis Cup After Early US Open Exit
Following an unexpected second-round exit at the 2024 US Open, Carlos Alcaraz has expressed confidence in his fitness and readiness as he prepares to lead Spain in the Davis Cup group stage later this week. Spain is set to face Australia, the Czech Republic, and France in Valencia, as reported by Xinhua.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Alcaraz addressed concerns about his form after a summer filled with notable successes, including victories at the French Open, Wimbledon, and an Olympic silver medal in August. Reflecting on his US Open performance, Alcaraz admitted, “I wasn’t able to play at the level I wanted in New York,” acknowledging that it’s tough to consistently perform at one’s best.
He also revealed that his preparation had been affected by the intensity of his summer schedule, leaving him with limited time for rest and training. Despite this, the 21-year-old assured fans that he now feels “good and motivated” to compete in the Davis Cup on home soil.
“I’ve been working hard since the US Open to reach my peak form for the Davis Cup and what’s ahead,” he said. “Mentally, I’m eager to keep improving, and physically, I’m prepared to face the challenges.”
Alcaraz also shared that after his loss to Botic van de Zandschulp at the US Open, he took some time to unwind but quickly returned to training to regain his physical condition.
