David Prutton believes Leeds United “must” secure promotion this season, placing significant pressure on manager Daniel Farke.
Farke retained his role despite the team’s heartbreaking play-off final loss to Southampton in May, which denied them an immediate return to the Premier League.
Currently, Leeds sits fourth in the Championship, unbeaten with two wins and two draws.
Speaking on the Essential EFL podcast (9 September, 18:52), former Leeds midfielder Prutton commented: “The pressure’s on Farke – they have to get promoted. It’s pretty straightforward, but that’s the expectation for Leeds in the Championship. The early signs are promising.”
Leeds United needs to maintain their momentum
Leeds recently recorded their second consecutive win and a third clean sheet with a 2-0 victory over Hull City at Elland Road.
Several players have been away on international duty, and Farke will be hoping for no major injury setbacks as the squad returns. Given the small size of the team, maintaining fitness is crucial.
Although the team started the season slowly, their recent performances suggest they are regaining form. This year, sustaining that momentum will be key.
Concerns remain over squad depth, with young players frequently involved in the first team. Despite high-profile departures, Leeds still boasts significant quality, and managing the squad’s fitness will be vital.
