Birmingham City have shattered the League One transfer record by signing striker Jay Stansfield from Fulham for over £15 million.

The club had already surpassed the League One incoming transfer record twice in this window before securing the Stansfield deal.

While Sky Sports News reports the fee to be an initial £15 million, sources within Birmingham suggest it is slightly less.

Previously, Birmingham brought in Christoph Klarer and Willum Thor Willumsson for around £3.5 million each, but the Stansfield transfer dwarfs those amounts.

The 21-year-old became a fan favorite after his loan spell with Birmingham last season, where he netted 13 goals in 37 matches, earning the club’s player-of-the-season award.

Ironically, Stansfield scored against Birmingham during Fulham’s 2-0 win in the Carabao Cup second round earlier this week.
