Caitlin Clark set a new WNBA record for most assists in a single season last week. With just one game left in her rookie season, she’s already earned a reputation as one of basketball’s elite passers, attracting attention from legends of the game.
Tamika Catchings, who spent her entire 15-year WNBA career with the Indiana Fever and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021, recently shared her thoughts on Clark in an interview with veteran sports writer Bob Kravitz for Sportscasting.com. Catchings, a key member of the Fever’s only championship team, praised Clark’s vision and passing, noting that it took some time for her teammates to adjust to her style of play.
“She was making the same passes she did at Iowa, but her Iowa teammates were used to it,” Catchings said. “At the start, a lot of our players weren’t expecting those passes. But over time, with practice, they got on the same page. Now, they’re ready for them.”
Catchings also commended Clark’s high basketball IQ and her ability to involve her teammates effectively. “Her court vision is exceptional, knowing exactly when and where to deliver the ball. That’s something many point guards miss. You see Aliyah and Kelsey getting their touches now—that’s Caitlin reading the game and distributing the ball at just the right moments.”
