“Breaking News: Grigor Dimitrov Speaks Out on Alarming Doping Scandal – ‘Tennis is Rigged After the…….. Read More”
Grigor Dimitrov described the way Jannik Sinner’s doping controversy played out as “very strange,” while criticizing the double standards present in tennis. Sinner tested positive twice for the banned anabolic steroid clostebol earlier this year, first during the Indian Wells Open on March 10, with a second positive test eight days later after he requested a retest.
Despite provisional suspensions following both tests, Sinner’s legal team successfully appealed, allowing him to continue playing. Remarkably, he won the Miami Open shortly after the first positive test, defeating Dimitrov in the final. The case was kept quiet until early August, when the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) cleared Sinner, attributing the positive tests to contamination from a support team member.
The news sparked criticism, with many accusing the authorities of giving the 23-year-old preferential treatment, as most players are typically suspended after testing positive. Dimitrov also pointed out the inconsistencies, questioning why Sinner’s case was handled differently.
“What struck me as most strange was how the protocols were managed,” Dimitrov said. “Other players have faced completely different procedures, which makes me wonder if there are double standards.”
He added, “We see this in other sports as well. It’s no secret. But the way this case unfolded was strange, even for someone like me who’s been on the ATP Tour for many years. We know how things work behind the scenes, especially in tournaments.”
