NORMAN — Nearly three weeks back as tens of thousands of crimson-clad fans meandered around tailgates at Boyd Lawn or the party at the palace west of Brooks Mall, a tall man in a suit attended pregame receptions with OU President Joseph Harroz Jr. and athletic director Joe Castiglione.
This is more like how Greg Sankey, the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference, would rather spend his first game day at one of his two new institutions. He met members of the Sooners’ women’s basketball team, rubbed shoulders with leaders from local communities and government folks who work at the state level, as well as elected leaders at the federal level. When he headed to the field, he ran into Sooners men’s basketball coach Porter Moser.
