Emma Raducanu was forced to retire from her Korea Open quarter-final against Daria Kasatkina after losing the first set 6-1 due to a foot injury. Raducanu had reached the weather-delayed quarter-finals by defeating Peyton Stearns and Yue Yuan, showing promising form.
The 21-year-old had received treatment for her foot during her match against Yuan but was given an extra recovery day after rain postponed the match to Saturday. Despite this, Kasatkina comfortably took the first set in just over 30 minutes, and Raducanu withdrew before the second set began, handing Kasatkina a spot in the semi-finals.
Kasatkina expressed sympathy for Raducanu, wishing her a speedy recovery. Raducanu had been aiming for her second WTA Tour semi-final of the year, after reaching the last four in Nottingham in June. However, she struggled against Kasatkina, who had previously defeated her in straight sets twice.
