Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced that midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has transferred to Real Betis. Lo Celso originally joined Spurs from Betis in 2019 amid much excitement, following their Champions League final run, and arrived alongside players like Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon, and Jack Clarke.

Despite his potential, the Argentine struggled with injuries and found it hard to adapt to the Premier League, making 108 appearances for Tottenham over five years. During his time in north London, he contributed 11 goals, with his last one coming in a thrilling 3-3 match against Manchester City in December 2023.

Lo Celso never secured a regular starting position under any of his managers—Pochettino, Mourinho, Mason, Conte, and Postecoglou—leading to his departure. He now returns to Spain, where he previously thrived with Betis in the 2018/19 season and also spent time on loan at Villarreal between 2022 and 2023.

As part of the transfer deal, Tottenham reportedly secured a “priority option” to sign Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso, or a sell-on clause for the USA international if they pass on that option.
