What a sad news: WKU top key player TJ Finley will not play for six weeks due to…..read more
Western Kentucky’s football team is riding high on a three-game win streak and coming off a thrilling come-from-behind home win against favored Toledo.
Seems like a fine time to hit the road and try to take down another Power Four conference program – and WKU head coach Tyson Helton is especially happy about the particular time Saturday’s meeting with Atlantic Coast Conference member Boston College will occur. The Tops will take on the Eagles at 11 a.m. CT at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
It will be the first pure day game the Hilltoppers have played this season after four previous game time starts of 6 p.m.
“We’ve got momentum and we’re looking for a big win,” Helton said. “Really glad about a (11 a.m.) kickoff. Get to get the game started and get rolling and get to be one of those early games. Everything lines up good and just excited for the opportunity.”
WKU (3-1) rallied from a 21-10 deficit in the third quarter against Toledo by scoring the game’s final 16 points, then got huge back-to-back stops in the red zone late in the fourth quarter when senior safety Devonte’ Mathews twice came up with interceptions with less than a minute left – first in the end zone, then again at the goal line to secure the win.
Boston College (3-1) is off to a strong start under first-year coach Bill O’Brien, the former head coach of the NFL’s Houston Texans as well as Penn State. The Eagles opened the season with a 28-13 win at then-ranked Florida State, then rolled to a 56-0 shutout win against FCS-level Duquesne before dropping a 27-21 road decision at No. 6 Missouri. The loss dropped BC out of the AP top 25 – it was No. 24 before the loss to Missouri – but the Eagles bounced back last week with a 23-19 home win against Michigan State.
