Wolverhampton Wanderers made a series of late Deadline Day signings to bolster their squad after what initially appeared to be a disappointing transfer window due to key departures. However, one notable arrival could lead to the exit of a star player, as reports suggest that the signing of Sam Johnstone may push José Sá towards a move to Saudi Arabia.

Wolves receive'formal enquiries' over Jose Sa at Molineux

Sá has been Wolves’ primary goalkeeper for the past three seasons, hardly missing any Premier League games, with the team finishing 10th, 13th, and 14th during his tenure. However, Johnstone’s last-minute transfer from Crystal Palace indicates that the club is prepared to move on from Sá. Reports suggest that he might be on his way to the Saudi Pro League, even though the UK transfer window is closed, as the Saudi window remains open.

Johnstone, signed for £10 million from Palace after falling behind Dean Henderson in their lineup, now takes Sá’s place as Wolves’ first-choice goalkeeper. This could prompt Sá’s departure, with his agent reportedly looking for a new club. At 31 years old, Sá is eager for regular playing time.

Should Sá leave, Daniel Bentley would become Wolves’ second-choice goalkeeper, with Tom King, a 29-year-old Guinness World Record holder for the longest goal in football, serving as the third option after joining from Northampton Town last summer.

Despite Sá’s experience, which includes 110 Premier League appearances and international caps for Portugal, Wolves appear ready to move forward with their new signing. They ended the transfer window on a positive note, bringing in promising young players for the academy and key additions like winger Carlos Forbs, midfielder André, and Johnstone.

While the loss of Pedro Neto to Chelsea and Max Kilman to West Ham could affect the team’s progress, Wolves’ recent signings should provide the necessary depth to avoid relegation struggles in the upcoming season.
