This isn’t the first time that Osaka and Fissette have ended their collaboration.
Fissette began coaching Osaka just before the 2020 season. They separated in the summer of 2022, but reunited last year when Osaka returned to training after her maternity leave.
During their time together, the 26-year-old athlete secured two of her four Grand Slam titles, expressing her appreciation for Fissette in an Instagram story on Friday.
Osaka wrote, “Four years, two Slams, and countless memories. Thank you, Wim, for being an exceptional coach and an even better person. Wishing you all the best.”
In his own Instagram post on Saturday, Fissette reflected on their partnership.
“Out of my 15 years on tour, this was one of my best years spent with incredible people,” he stated. “We worked harder and improved from every defeat, and we were very close to achieving a breakthrough.”
After the U.S. Open, he noted that Osaka chose to pursue a new direction. “I accepted it, knowing we concluded this second chapter with many good memories and gratitude for helping her return,” he added.
