A Big Congratulation: Miley Cyrus Has Been Awarded AS Best American singer Of The…

Dolly Parton and her goddaughter Miley Cyrus have a deep bond both on and off stage. As Parton shared with “Good Morning America” in 2009, she has known Miley, the “Wrecking Ball” singer, since her infancy: “Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, is a friend of mine. When Miley was born, he asked me to be her godmother, and I happily accepted.” Although there was no formal ceremony, Parton expressed how proud she is of Miley, saying, “I love her like she’s one of my own.” The affection and mutual respect between them are clear when they perform together. However, it seems one major issue is straining their relationship: Parton’s continued friendship with Miley’s father, Billy Ray.

Miley Cyrus Calls Out Grammys Audience During'Flowers' Performance

According to a source from In Touch, while Parton doesn’t approve of Billy Ray’s behavior during his contentious divorce from Johanna “Firerose” Hodges, she’s not willing to completely cut him out. “Dolly would never support him hurting Miley,” the source said, but added that Parton isn’t choosing sides. “She believes in forgiveness and is still taking Billy Ray’s calls despite being upset with him.” Miley reportedly isn’t happy with this neutral stance, with another source noting, “[Miley] wants Dolly to cut ties with Billy Ray too. For her, it’s a question of loyalty.” While Parton may find it easier to forgive, Miley’s ongoing estrangement from her father has made the situation difficult.

Billy Ray Cyrus’ 2022 divorce from Tish Cyrus seems to have driven a wedge between him and Miley. A source told Radar that the two had a serious falling-out just before the divorce was announced: “Things were already tense, but after a blowup last summer, they haven’t spoken since.” Another source revealed to The U.S. Sun that Miley disagreed with her father’s actions during the divorce, leading to their estrangement.

When Miley accepted a Grammy award in February 2024, she appeared to cement the rift by publicly thanking many people, including her mother and sister, but noticeably omitting her father. With no signs of reconciliation, Dolly Parton may eventually have to choose sides.
