Liam Payne is finally being laid to rest today in the Home Counties in England, with his family and friends arriving at his funeral service.
Mourners are beginning to gather at the church where the funeral will be taking place. Friends, family and fans of the One Direction star have been seen clutching flowers and keepsakes outside of the church.
Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh was the first to arrive, with Liam’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy and his former One Direction bandmate Harry Styles also seen outside the church. A floral tribute of bowling pins being knocked over has been placed in a nod to Liam’s favorite hobby. Inside the church, preparations are underway and the pews are filling with those who loved and admired him.
Final preparations were completed for the singer’s funeral this morning. Flowers were seen being arranged outside the entrance to the church where the funeral is being held. The service will be followed by a wake.
The One Direction star tragically fell to his death from the third-floor balcony of the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16. It was determined in the autopsy report that the 31-year-old had died of “polytrauma and internal and external bleeding.”
Forensic experts found a total of 25 injuries “compatible with those produced by a fall from height.” Preliminary toxicology results determined that Payne had a number of substances in his system when he died, including “pink cocaine”.
Since then, the world over has been grieving the beloved singer, who made up one fifth of the world’s most successful boyband of all time. Liam, who was just 16 when he was thrust into the spotlight on the UK’s the X Factor, as he joined fellow bandmates Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan.
The group went on to achieve unfathomable levels of success, however, there was also a dark side to all the fame and fortune, with Liam being open about his battles with addiction throughout his life. He once admitted that he turned to alcohol during his early One Direction days after he and his bandmates would be locked in hotel rooms to secure them from the huge crowds of fans outside.
He shared on The Diary of a CEO podcast: “When we were in the band, the best way to secure us — because of how big it got — was just lock us in our rooms. And of course, what’s in the room? Mini bar. So at a certain point, I thought, ‘Well I’m gonna have a party for one.'”
