I recently watched Babygirl and I have to say that it is one of the most unique and daring thrillers I have seen in a while.

First of all, the images are breathtaking

Directed by Halina Reijn, the film delves deep into the complexity of human desire and power dynamics, wrapped in an intense, almost suffocating atmosphere. Jasper Wolf’s cinematography captures the raw emotion of each scene, blending light and shadow to create a whimsical, almost dreamlike world. There’s a constant sense of tension, as if something explosive is always about to happen, and the pace keeps you engaged throughout.

That said, Babygirl isn’t for everyone

Nicole Kidman gives a stunning performance, bringing a mix of vulnerability and cold calculation to her character. The supporting cast, while lesser-known, also does a great job of giving the story depth and unpredictability. Without giving too much away, the film’s exploration of psychological control and submission feels both disturbing and fascinating.

Its erotic elements are tastefully done, but may be uncomfortable or controversial for some viewers

The story sometimes feels intentionally vague, forcing you to piece together the characters’ motivations, which I found intriguing but might frustrate others. Overall, if you like psychological thrillers that don’t shy away from taboo subjects and push the envelope, Babygirl is definitely worth watching. It’s haunting, elegant, and will leave you thinking about it long after the credits roll.
