Chronology

After the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, makes a move to take over the reins of Gotham’s underworld. Except for the Bat-Signal in the last season finale, we never get one. In this short video, IMDb tries to answer: Where was Batman?. Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of The Penguin Smoking Tobacco in Batman (2022), but failed.

However, his own series portrays the character as an occasional tobacco user, preferring cigars. The umbrella falls and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. The Graham Norton Show starring: Lady Gaga / Demi Moore / Colin Farrell / Richard Ayoade / Jack Savoretti (2024).

Where to start with Farrell

It fits the tone and atmosphere perfectly. Small, dirty, and dark, but Farrell manages to capture that spark of charm that Gandolfini did in Tony Soprano. There are similarities to The Sopranos, especially in the tone. There’s a lot of dark stuff in this opening series, but there are still comedic moments that fit the tone without breaking it.

Amazing is the right word

I love seeing talented actors star in roles like this and the makeup/CGI or whatever they did to make him physically look like a penguin not only passes the eye test but looks incredibly realistic. There’s always the risk that if the makeup work isn’t good enough or is even slightly off, it can be completely distracting. In Penguin, it enhances his performance and the overall quality of the show because it’s such good work. And Farrell, as an actor, is completely immersed in this role.

I wasn’t disappointed, in fact I was delighted

I may be a little biased because he was one of my favorite actors up until this show, but I think this will earn him the accolades he deserves. I never binge-watch new shows because I like to watch all the episodes at once, but I wanted to see how this one actually turned out. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this project.
