Corban Baxter Ruled Out of 2024 NRLW Season Due to ACL Injury.
Summary
Corban Baxter, the Sydney Roosters star, has been sidelined for the 2024 NRLW season following a serious knee injury sustained during a pre-season match against Cronulla. Scans confirmed she ruptured her ACL, joining teammates Brydie Parker and Shawden Burton on the injury list.
Details:
The Roosters’ NRLW season will commence with a game against the Knights in Newcastle on July 25. Unfortunately, Baxter’s season ended before it began, with an ACL rupture confirmed by scans. The injury occurred during a tackle in a pre-season match against Cronulla, and Baxter received the devastating news on Monday evening.
This injury prevents the 30-year-old from participating in any part of the Roosters’ NRLW campaign, which starts next Friday night against Newcastle. Baxter had recently played her first State of Origin series in four years for the Blues and returned to the Roosters last season just six months after giving birth.
In addition to Baxter, the Roosters face another setback with Brydie Parker suffering a broken forearm in the same match, ruling her out for at least six weeks. The team had already lost hooker Shawden Burton for the season due to a hamstring injury following an ACL tear last year.
Statements:
Roosters coach John Strange expressed his sympathy: “We are all really feeling for Corban. She is our vice-captain and such a valuable asset to our playing group, so to have her miss the entire 2024 season is a really big loss. It’s also disappointing news for ‘Shawdy’ (Burton). She has worked so hard to recover from the ACL injury that sidelined her midway through last year, so this new injury is really unlucky. We will continue to do everything possible to ensure Corban, Shawden, and Brydie are fully supported during their respective recoveries and can return to playing as soon as possible.”
