Rockies Reportedly Could Trade Veteran Hurler Back To Cardinals

The resurgent St. Louis Cardinals come back from the All-Star break with a 50-46 record. Despite a slow start to the 2024 MLB season, they are now just 4.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central Division.

With 66 games left in the season, the Cardinals may consider adding another veteran pitcher to strengthen their starting rotation. Before the season began, they signed free agent right-handers Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson. An additional veteran starter could further solidify their rotation as the season progresses.

Starting pitching is highly sought after, making trades challenging. However, several teams, including the Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, and Kansas City Royals, may look to enhance their outfield depth before the July 30 trade deadline.

The Cardinals have a strong outfield lineup. Last December, they traded Tyler O’Neill to the Boston Red Sox for right-handed reliever Nick Robertson and right-handed prospect starter Victor Santos.
