Allnigeriasoccer.com has learned that Derby County, recently promoted to the Championship, is set to announce the signing of Valencia-born Nigerian young talent David Ozoh. Derby County has reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to acquire the history-making midfielder on a season-long loan.
Ozoh, who holds the record as the youngest player to feature for Crystal Palace in the English Premier League at 17 years, eight months, and 15 days, debuted against Newcastle United in January 2023. Now 19, he has chosen to join the Rams despite interest from several English Football League clubs and French Ligue 1 side RC Lens.
Ozoh has agreed to personal terms with Derby County and is scheduled for a medical examination on Monday, July 22, before his official unveiling. Derby County managed to secure Ozoh’s services despite competition from Championship rivals West Brom, Cardiff City, Plymouth Argyle, and Luton Town. The versatile midfielder, eligible to play for Nigeria and England, has also represented the Young Lions at the U18 level.
Since his debut against Newcastle, Ozoh has made thirteen appearances for Crystal Palace’s first team, playing against top clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City in the Premier League. He has been with Crystal Palace since the age of eight, progressing through their youth system and signing his first professional contract in August 2022.
Ozoh might make his competitive debut for Derby County on the Championship’s opening day, Friday, August 9, against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
