The Celtic Football Club, commonly known as Celtic (/ˈsÉ›ltɪk/), is a professional football club based in Glasgow, Scotland. They compete in the Scottish Premiership, the top tier of Scottish football. Established in 1887 to help alleviate poverty among the Irish–Scots community in the East End of Glasgow, Celtic played their inaugural match in May 1888, defeating Rangers 5–2 in a friendly. Early in their history, Celtic dominated Scottish football, winning six consecutive league titles in the first decade of the 20th century. The club’s golden era came in the 1960s and 70s under manager Jock Stein, during which they claimed nine straight league titles and the 1967 European Cup. Celtic have always worn green and white, adopting their iconic hoops design in 1903.

Celtic are one of only five clubs worldwide to have secured over 100 trophies. They have won the Scottish league championship 54 times, most recently in the 2023–24 season, the Scottish Cup 42 times, and the Scottish League Cup 21 times. Their most remarkable season was 1966–67, when they became the first British team to win the European Cup, also securing the Scottish league championship, Scottish Cup, League Cup, and Glasgow Cup. They also reached the European Cup Final in 1970 and the UEFA Cup Final in 2003, finishing as runners-up in both.

Celtic’s fierce rivalry with Rangers, known collectively as the Old Firm, is one of the world’s most intense football derbies. In 2003, Celtic’s global fanbase was estimated at around 9 million, with over 160 supporters clubs in more than 20 countries. Approximately 80,000 fans traveled to Seville for the 2003 UEFA Cup Final, where their exemplary behavior despite the loss earned Celtic Fair Play awards from both FIFA and UEFA.
