Last season, FCSB broke CFR Cluj’s reign in the Romanian league by winning the championship for the first time since the 2014/15 season. However, this season has turned into a nightmare for the “Army Men.” With only five points from their first six matches in Liga 1, FCSB has lost their last two games, falling 0-2 to Hermannstadt and 0-1 to Politehnica Iași. As a result, they find themselves in 15th place, second from the bottom of the standings.
In the Champions League qualifiers, FCSB had an easy time against San Marino’s Virtus in the first round and went on to eliminate Maccabi Tel Aviv. After a 1-1 draw at home, FCSB secured a 1-0 win away with a decisive goal in the 90th minute. However, they were knocked out in the third round by Sparta Prague, following a 1-1 draw away and a 2-3 loss at home.
**LASK**
LASK has grown accustomed to reaching the later stages of European competitions in recent years. Not too long ago, they even faced Manchester United in the Europa League Round of 16. Last season, LASK competed in the group stage but finished at the bottom of their group. In the 2023/24 Austrian Bundesliga, the team from Linz finished in third place.
Similar to FCSB, LASK has had a disappointing start to the new season. In their first four matches of the Austrian Bundesliga, the black-and-whites have only managed to collect three points, with their sole victory being a 2-1 win against Hartberg. In their last match, LASK suffered a 1-2 defeat to Austria Vienna.
