Sydney, Australia – [Date Placeholder]
The rugby league world is in mourning today after the shocking news that former Parramatta Eels head coach Brad Arthur has been reported dead following a tragic incident involving a planned private aviation tour that ended in disaster.

According to early reports from New South Wales emergency services, Arthur was one of several individuals aboard a small chartered aircraft bound for Queensland. The plane experienced mechanical failure shortly after takeoff and crashed in a remote area outside Tamworth. Authorities confirmed there were no survivors.

Brad Arthur, 50, was best known for his decade-long tenure as head coach of the Parramatta Eels from 2014 to 2024, during which he became the club’s longest-serving coach. He led the team to multiple finals appearances, including a runner-up finish in the 2022 NRL Grand Final.

Tributes Pour In

NRL clubs, former players, and fans have expressed their grief on social media, remembering Arthur not only as a dedicated coach but also as a passionate mentor and family man.

“This is absolutely devastating news,” wrote former Eels player Clint Gutherson. “Brad believed in us when nobody else did. Rest in peace, Coach.”

The Eels released a formal statement:

“We are heartbroken to confirm the passing of Brad Arthur, a beloved figure in our club’s history. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.”

Life Beyond the Eels

Following his departure from the Eels in 2024, Arthur had recently taken up a consulting role with a Super League club in the UK. He was said to be planning a quiet return to coaching in 2026, after spending time with his family and reflecting on his next chapter.

He is survived by his wife and children, including Matt Arthur, a rising rugby league player whom Brad had mentored closely.

Investigation Underway

An official investigation into the cause of the crash is underway. Aviation authorities have confirmed that preliminary evidence points to engine failure but have not ruled out other contributing factors.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days. A public memorial is expected to be held at CommBank Stadium, home of the Parramatta Eels.
