Chiefs’ legend reveals plans to pay Patrick Mahomes $84 million for three months just for his… see more
Mahomes and Kansas City claimed victory in the season opener, defeating the Baltimore Ravens 27-20.
After leading his team to a Super Bowl victory last season, Mahomes reportedly earned $56.85 million.
In 2020, Kansas City offered Mahomes a historic 10-year contract worth $450 million, which initially seemed extravagant. However, with three Super Bowl titles in four years, some now consider the $45 million per season to be a bargain. Former Chiefs lineman Mitchell Schwartz echoed this sentiment on social media after witnessing Kansas City’s win in the NFL opener.
“One day people will fully understand the Patrick Mahomes contract. Today is still not that day,” Schwartz posted. He was part of the team when they won Super Bowl LIV in 2020 but retired in 2022 after being released by the Chiefs.
Sports analyst Stephen A. Smith also believes Mahomes should be earning more and has urged Kansas City to renegotiate his contract. Despite the record-breaking deal, Mahomes is no longer the highest-paid player per year, with Dak Prescott’s recent four-year, $240 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys surpassing him.
