Lloris, 37, was France’s starting goalkeeper when they won the 2018 World Cup, defeating Croatia in the final. He also featured in the 2022 final, where France lost to Argentina in a penalty shootout.

Expressing excitement over the acquisition, LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington stated, “Hugo is arguably one of the most successful goalkeepers of his generation and a proven winner. We are thrilled that Hugo has chosen LAFC for the next chapter of his remarkable career. His leadership and top-level experience will be a significant asset to our team as we continue our quest for more trophies.”

Thorrington also extended his gratitude to Tottenham for their cooperation and warmly welcomed Lloris, along with his wife Marine and their three children, to Los Angeles.

Lloris, who joined Tottenham in 2012 and captained the Premier League club for eight years, is set to receive a hero’s send-off from Spurs fans during halftime of Sunday’s match against Bournemouth.

After a difficult season marked by a dip in form, Lloris lost his starting position at Tottenham. In a farewell message via the club’s official website, Lloris expressed his gratitude to the fans, saying, “Thank you for all your support since day one. It has been an honor to serve as one of your captains for so many years. Though this is the end of the chapter, Spurs will always hold a special place in my heart.”

LAFC, champions of MLS in 2022 and runners-up in this year’s playoffs and the CONCACAF Champions League, will benefit from Lloris’ wealth of experience. He joins the squad following the retirement of Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.
