Bayern Munich 1-1 Bayer Leverkusen: Harry Kane injury worry for Vincent Kompany - BBC Sport

Vincent Kompany is hopeful that Harry Kane’s ankle injury is not serious after the Bayern Munich forward limped off during their 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.

England captain Kane was substituted in the 86th minute of Saturday’s Bundesliga match after a challenge from Amine Adli left him in visible discomfort.

Kompany’s Bayern squad is set to play Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday.

“I’m not a doctor, but I hope it’s nothing serious. It’s too early to tell. Hopefully, he’ll be fit for Wednesday,” the Bayern manager told Sky Sports.

Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, added: “If Harry leaves the pitch, it’s something worth noting. Hopefully, he’s built strong like sturdy English oak.”

England interim manager Lee Carsley will also be hoping Kane recovers quickly, with Nations League fixtures against Greece (October 10) and Finland (October 13) approaching.

Bayer Leverkusen opened the scoring in Munich when Robert Andrich slotted the ball into the bottom corner after a well-played pass from Granit Xhaka in the 31st minute.

Bayern equalized eight minutes later when Aleksandar Pavlovic unleashed a brilliant 25-yard shot into the top corner, despite goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky getting a hand to it.

Shortly after halftime, Kane delivered a cross to Serge Gnabry, who hit the post and then the crossbar on the rebound, narrowly missing the chance to give Bayern the lead.

Alphonso Davies fired wide from the edge of the box, and Konrad Laimer also missed just past the post as both teams searched for a winning goal.

The draw kept Kompany’s Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga table, with 13 points from five matches, while Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen sit three points behind in third.
