In an exclusive excerpt from the updated edition of Martin Popoff’s *Iron Maiden: Album by Album*, Mike Portnoy, Nita Strauss, and Blaze Bayley delve into the band’s *Powerslave* album.
Released in September 1984, *Powerslave* features classic tracks like “Aces High” and “2 Minutes to Midnight,” alongside the nearly 14-minute epic “Rime of the Ancient Mariner.”
Portnoy expresses his admiration, stating, “Powerslave is the pinnacle of my love for Iron Maiden. I believe that during their original classic period, the band pushed their limits to the fullest; to me, this is their most progressive album.” Strauss, a former guitarist for the all-female tribute band the Iron Maidens, echoes this sentiment, calling it “the one album we could have performed from start to finish. We used to include every single song in our set, so I developed a deep appreciation for the lesser-known tracks.”
*Iron Maiden: Album by Album* (Updated Edition) is available for pre-order at major retailers. The book includes exclusive interviews, live and behind-the-scenes photos, as well as images of rare memorabilia from throughout the band’s history.
