Reading FC face new manager bounce against Charlton Athletic
The individual from Wales, renowned for his achievements during two stints with Luton Town, inked a long-standing contract with Charlton Athletic on Sunday subsequent to Michael Appleton’s dismissal.
After less fruitful periods with Stoke City and Southampton, the ex-Charlton youth coach has chosen to step down to the third tier in order to aid his former club.
With a decisive 4-0 victory over the Royals in the previous encounter at the Valley, Charlton finds themselves only three points ahead of Ruben Selles’ team, yet notably outside the relegation zone.
Commenting on his new role, Jones expressed, “I am deeply enthused by the task ahead of me at Charlton. This club holds a special place in my heart from my previous involvement, and I am eager to contribute to its progression.
“I’ve received offers from several clubs to return to management, but I’ve been patiently waiting for the right opportunity. After discussions with the Board and considering the length of the contract, it’s evident that there’s a genuine eagerness to cultivate something significant here, and I’m excited to be a part of that journey.”
