The Green Bay Packers have appointed a former NFL Defensive Coordinator to serve as their Pass Game Coordinator for the 2024 season.
When Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur made the decision to relieve defensive coordinator Joe Barry of his duties, it marked a significant shift in the defensive coaching personnel. Despite facing criticism from the fanbase for his tendency to favor coaches he’s familiar with or has worked with previously, LaFleur deserves commendation for actively seeking out highly respected football coaches.
In a notable restructuring of Barry’s coaching staff, only Jason Rebrovich and Ryan Downard are being retained, with each assuming different roles within the staff. Rebrovich is transitioning from linebackers coach to defensive line coach, while Downard is moving from safeties coach to defensive backs coach.
Undoubtedly, the most significant change lies in the arrival of former Boston College head coach Jef
While Matt LaFleur received input from Brian Gutekunst, myself, and others, he ultimately retained full control over his coaching staff and made the final decision. I was particularly impressed with Matt’s approach to the search process. We conducted extensive interviews with numerous candidates, both via Zoom and in person, and Jeff emerged as the standout choice. His track record in the NFL and his tenure at Boston College spoke volumes about his capabilities.
Despite the absence of prior coaching experience between Matt and Jeff, they share many mutual acquaintances who provided glowing recommendations for Jeff. Additionally, my former teammate on the Redskins, Pete Cronan, who is a Boston College alumnus and has served as the longstanding radio voice of Boston College football, spoke highly of Jeff and his contributions to the program.
