Elijah Herring Joins Transfer Portal
Tennessee linebacker Elijah Herring officially entered the transfer portal on Monday evening. Prior to entering the portal, Herring took to his social media platforms to express gratitude towards the University of Tennessee and his coaches. With two seasons of eligibility remaining, Herring leaves the Volunteers.
During his time with the Vols, Herring appeared in 25 games, including eleven starts as a middle linebacker during his sophomore season. In the 2023 season, he recorded 79 tackles, a sack, and a pass deflection, leading Tennessee in tackles for his second season with the program. Herring was part of head coach Josh Heupel’s inaugural signing class with the Vols and was ranked as the No. 749 prospect in the 2022 class according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
The linebacker room in Knoxville, Tennessee, has experienced changes in recent months. Former linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary departed to take the same role with the Michigan Wolverines. Tennessee subsequently hired Washington co-defensive coordinator William Inge to fill the vacancy. Inge emphasized that every player entered spring with a clean slate under his leadership.
