Netflix Announces Release Date for Controversial Darby Crash Biopic — “The Crash Gospel” Set to Premiere Globally
In a move that’s already igniting heated debate across music forums and punk communities, Netflix has officially announced the release date for its highly anticipated — and deeply controversial — biopic, “The Crash Gospel”, based on the chaotic and tragic life of punk icon Darby Crash. The film will premiere globally on October 18, 2025, exactly 45 years after the release of The Germs’ legendary album GI.
Directed by underground filmmaker Ezra King and starring rising star Kit Connor in a radical transformation as Darby, the film promises a raw, unfiltered dive into the life of the Germs frontman — from his anarchist youth and obsession with cult psychology to the band’s violent rise and his mysterious overdose at age 22.
Netflix’s teaser trailer, released just minutes after the announcement, features haunting shots of Darby smearing lipstick, screaming lyrics into shattered mics, and scribbling his infamous five-year plan in a notebook soaked in sweat and blood. One line from the trailer already has fans buzzing:
> “If I die young, they’ll remember me perfectly.”
Critics are already divided. Some fans applaud Netflix for bringing punk’s most self-destructive legend to a global audience. Others accuse the platform of exploiting a deeply misunderstood figure for streaming numbers.
“Darby Crash was never meant to be mainstream,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “He died rejecting fame. And now he’s a Netflix thumbnail?”
Whether it’s punk exploitation or long-overdue recognition, “The Crash Gospel” is set to reawaken interest in The Germs and reignite debates about legacy, death, and authenticity in punk rock.
Brace for impact — Darby’s coming to your screen, whether you’re ready or not.
