Collingwood’s recent acquisition, Lachie Schultz, hasn’t quite lived up to expectations since joining from Fremantle during the off-season. Despite the Pies investing heavily, including a future first-round pick and another selection, Schultz has yet to fully justify his price tag through six games.
While he’s managed to kick seven goals in this period, his performance in key metrics like disposals, marks, goals, tackles, and inside 50s has seen a decline compared to his 2023 season with Fremantle.
Despite his underwhelming start, Jenkins believes Schultz’s spot in the starting lineup isn’t in jeopardy. He advocates for patience, emphasizing the need to honor the commitment made to Schultz and give him time to adjust to the team’s dynamics.
Jenkins acknowledges Schultz’s current performance as subpar but stresses that immediate impact isn’t always guaranteed when transitioning to a new team. He expresses optimism that Schultz will improve as Collingwood’s overall form progresses.
Jenkins suggests that sending Schultz to the VFL wouldn’t be productive, instead advocating for ongoing support and guidance within the team to help him adapt to Collingwood’s system.

Despite the disappointment in Schultz’s initial impact, he’s been included in the starting lineup for the upcoming Anzac Day clash against Essendon at the MCG, indicating the team’s commitment to his development.
